Would it be better for the US to act more like Native Peoples?

I watched a History Channel doentary about "Indian" cultures in pre-columbian times with an emphasis in the Cherokee. It made me think about how the US runs it's affairs today. Perhaps it would be better to change things to the way native peoples ran their affairs.
